When buying a bra more and more women recognise the need to be properly fitted. Yet when it comes to Maternity Bras and Nursing Bras, how many women buy off the peg, without a proper fitting or visit a department store and are measured for a bra. Yet given the changes a woman's body goes through during pregnancy, surely this is the time when it is even more important to get it right.  So if you are being fitted for a bra during pregancy, ask if the fitter has been trained to fit bras for women during pregnancy and whilst feeding. If the fitter has been properly trained they will be able to advise you on the type of bras to wear, what size you need so that you can get the most from the bra as your body and boobs change and also when you will need to be re-checked.

When it comes to feeding bras, again you want to ensure that you get the most from your bra and that the bra not only offers comfort and support, but is functional as well. So once again get yourself fitted by an experienced fitter.

We've had Katie Price Lingerie in Asda, now Caprice Lingerie is set to be in Tesco from January. She already works with online retailers such as Just Bras and Asos and has supplied Debenhams and Next.

She will launch online with Dorothy Perkins this week and clothes will be in its shops and Tesco stores by January.

Having worried that her business would not survive the recession, she now says: 'I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.

'These are quite big deals for me and I am really excited.'

This raises the question, given that 80% of the nation's women are wearing the wrong size bra, is the supermarket the right place to buy a bra? If you can buy the same bra at a supermarket or at a Lingerie Store for the same price, then surely the personal service offered by a Lingerie Store with experienced fitters who will give you proper advise as to suitable size and styles, should make the Lingerie Store to be the first port of call for any woman wanting to buy a properly fitting bra.

Working as a buyer in the lingerie industry, friends and family ring me up from time to time to let me know what the next trend in lingerie is going to be. Something they've seen on telly or read in the papers, that is going to take the lingerie industry by storm. Last week it was several people telling me that the Conical Bra is due to make a come back and have we got them on order, ready for the deluge of demand. A little bit of research and it would appear that a couple of our more notable designers Louise Goldin and Jean Paul Gaultier have been promoting the look on the cat walk this season.

This has been coupled in the newspapers with an increase in demand for the Triumph Doreen and the Fantasie Belle Bras both of which produce a slightly more pointed shape than some other styles, creating the headlines of the return of the Conical Bra. Lets put this in perspective and come back to the real world, the Fantasie Belle sales relate to an increase in sales following a concert by Madonna, who we all know loves her pointed bras, where she wore a see through blouse with a Belle Bra underneath, which Fantasie were very quick to take advantage of and use to market the bra, resulting in a 10% increase in sales in a week. The Triumph Doreen is probably the oldest bra on the market having been around for over 40 years and is marketed as the World's Best Selling Bra. There is most definitely a market still for this bra, but it is not a young fashion led market and increases in sales are not at all related to current fashions. As for Jean Paul Gaultier, didn't he design the conical bra worn by Madonna on stage in the 80's and doesn't he have a perfume range, where the bottles are in the shape of a female with conical pointy breasts.

So do I think the conical bra is due to make a comeback, not for a moment! Do women come into Lingerie Stores and ask for bras to give them pointy boobs, not very often, but you do hear complaints if they feel a bra is making them look too pointy.  Will we stocking up with lots of conical bras, I don't think so, but for those of you who like the Triumph Doreen and the Fantasie Belle, neither of which are truly conical in shape, then of course we do stock them and will carry on doing so.

Labels dominating the American Lingerie market can vary from those found in the UK, but on checking the results for the 2009 Undies Awards, voted for by members of the public, it was nice to see that for the fuller figure the British branded Panache Tango II was voted the overall winner,

tango II"Voters rave about the fit and comfort of this stylish balconnet bra. The construction is all about support: 3-section cups, full support panel, strong wire and supportive, double-layered wings. The fine mesh and elegant Austrian embroidery add fashion to function. Band sizes range from 30-44 and cup sizes from D-JJ."  www.theundies.com/winners.aspx

The Tango II has been always been the fitters bra of choice here at Just Bras and a firm favourite with our customers, so it comes as no surprise that it is as popular in America as it is here in Britain.

So what about American exports to the UK, well here we have to admit that the overall winner in the Average Figure Section was a Vanity Fair moulded T  shirt bra, similar to the Vanity Fair 75842 that is available here in the UK.

Vanity Fair in the UK is better known for the Fully range and the Pretty Plus range, that both specialise in the fuller figure type bras, but having been the overall winner for the second year running in the average figure section, their smaller cup size bras should perhaps be given a second look here in the UK.

British products also did well  in some of the individual bra type categories with the Fantasie Smoothing being the top T Shirt bra for the fuller figure and the Panache Porcelain being the Undies Select Winner in the same category. The Fantasie Smoothing also came top in the Best Seamless Bra category and the Best Strapless Bra category. In the Push up Section the Panache Atlantis Gel Bra came out top.

So perhaps the British Lingerie industry is something we can be proud of with both Panache and Fantasie being firm favourites in the American market, so for once particularly when it comes to bras for those of you who are DD plus, British is most definitely best.
