14th March is Mother's Day - The gift of perfectionPosted on Saturday Feb 27 1:30:00 UTC 2010 Listed under: Mother's Day is on 14th March this year, I was thinking back to last Mother's Day when my Mum had phoned me to ask if I could get a 42A for her, '42A I thought - hell! my Mum's not that size!!!' Since becoming a bra fitting consultant I've seen many ladies who find their bras uncomfortable and increase their back size - the end result is horrible as the bra that does'nt fit anywhere and is still uncomfortable!
My mum is from a generation of women who were never fitted properly for a bra, in fact I remember getting my own first bra and being measured over my coat by the sales assistant at a large chain store!!! Apart from the fact that we don't wear bras over our coats (!) the sales assistant said I was a 34B which was standard issue for any pre-teen girl then and as I grew older I aimlessly tried various sizes before deciding I was a 38B (?) When I went along to my first bra fitting course which was run by Freya and the technique they taught was based on the one used by Rigby & Pellar; the trainer pointed out I was wearing the wrong size bra, my fitted size turned out to be 34DD, my mum's fitted size is 36DD! My mum could'nt get over the fact that she has (what she fondly terms as) 'bosoms' and how comfortable her bra was, it made a huge difference in what she wore - she looked slimmer, more 'up' there, more feminine and it helped her posture as well.
Give you Mum the gift of perfection is by getting her a gift voucher from a specialist bra shop, and be ready for whoops of joy when she discovers not only her correct bra size but what shapes and styles really work for her!!
